How To Cook Rice
Most rice is coated with something to keep the kernels from sticking together, and can be rice powder, powdered glucose, or talc. Unless stated otherwise on the packaging, all rice must be washed in cold water to remove the coating before cooking. ~ June
- 1 cup uncooked brown or white long grain rice
- 1 3/4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1. Measure rice and put in the saucepan. Fill with enough cold water to gently swish the rice around with your hands. Drain off water, and repeat the process two more times to remove the outer coating.
- 2. Add 1 3/4 cups cold water, salt, and heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 30 minutes or until all moisture is absorbed. Do not lift the lid, as the steam helps cook the rice.
- 3. Remove from heat and fluff rice with a fork.
